Leaves from the vine..
Falling so slow..

The rain pelted own harder and harder as the rabbits from both warrens tore into each other with tooth and claw, one warren fighting for freedom and peace, the other for destruction and hate. Woundwort's army of Efrafa were many and skilled, but Hazel's army of Watership Down had the cunning of El-ahrairah on their side. They fought alongside the birds, bats, voles, moles, squirrels and other woodland creatures they'd come to befriend. The battle was in the thick, thunder roaring overheard and lightening dancing across the clouds.

Finally, after what seemed like moons, the battle reached it's dramatic end when the earth raised above them and split from a lightening strike, swallowing the dead, tangled tree that housed Efrafa, and their monster of a chief with it. All the rabbits rejoiced at the slaying of the beast and knelt before Hazel, pledging their allegiance and surrendering to their new chief. The Watership rabbits exchanged looks of shocked bliss and a feeling of relief and triumph swept over them all.

Like fragile tiny shells..
Drifting in the foam..

"Longmane, Rabsca, Tabitha, Brome.. " Bigwig muttered his children's names out loud, pointing at them as he did a headcount. He blinked in surprise when he noticed a face missing and looked around him. "Where's Thorn?"

"We was fighting that big brute, Blackbird, last time we saw him." Tallear explained as he, too, started to glance around for his brother.

With a concerned hum Bigwig ordered the five juveniles to find their mother and hopped off through the muddy ground to search for his missing son. He glanced from rabbit to rabbit standing about or licking his wounds, narrowing his eyes when he found them to all be Efrafan. He wanted badly to find that Blackbird and ask him just where he last saw his boy, if that black cur was still alive.

Little soldier boy..
Come marching home..

Bigwig, now soaked to the brim from the rain and his fur hanging in his face, had reached the edge of the pit Efrara was located in. There were less rabbits here now, most of them dead from the battle and laying unmoving on the ground. He thanked Frith every time he checked a body and found it was an unfortunate Efrafan warrior, as horrible as it may have sounded.

"Now, where could that boy have-- " Suddenly the Owsla officer was cut short as he saw a lump of familiar dusty-blond fur pressed into the dark mud of the ground beneath it. For a while, the buck stood stiff and stared at the mass, his mind pushing away the inevitable thoughts swimming in his mind until his paws finally moved forward and eh crossed the soaked ground towards the body, swallowing deeply and praying to Frith. However, it seemed that Frith had not heard him, and has he brushed back that characteristic lock of hair covering the buck's young face, Bigwig felt the tears stinging his eyes like a hundred bees.

"Oh, dear Frith.. " he moaned under his breath in despair as the tears started to flow freely down his face. "Not my boy.. !"

And brave soldier boy..
Comes marching home. . .
